      Description

      We had a case where a user had to control-C out of a publish operation because it was stuck. Then they tried to clean up with cvmfs_server abort but it couldn't clean up because of an arg list too long error. Here was the output of the command:

      $ cvmfs_server abort minos.opensciencegrid.org
      You are about to DISCARD ALL CHANGES OF THE CURRENT TRANSACTION for
      minos.opensciencegrid.org! Are you sure (y/N)? y
      /var/spool/cvmfs/minos.opensciencegrid.org/rdonly is not mounted properly.
      /cvmfs/minos.opensciencegrid.org is not mounted properly.
      minos.opensciencegrid.org is in a transaction but
      /cvmfs/minos.opensciencegrid.org is not mounted read/write
      Note: Trying to mount /var/spool/cvmfs/minos.opensciencegrid.org/rdonly...
      success
      Note: Trying to mount /cvmfs/minos.opensciencegrid.org... success
      Note: Trying to remount /cvmfs/minos.opensciencegrid.org read/write... success
      /usr/bin/cvmfs_server: line 1316: /usr/bin/rm: Argument list too long

      The system administrator discovered that /var/spool/cvmfs/minos.opensciencegrid.org/tmp/ was full of a lot of files and manually cleaned them up, then the abort was able to work.

      A work around for rm arg list too long is to do find and pipe it to xargs rm.
