Configuration of 32 bit build is wrong on 64 bit systems

As explained in this forum thread the configuration (with configure) of a 32 bit Linux build on a 64 bit Linux machine will fail if the 32 bit libraries are not in /usr/lib/ (in many 64 bit systems they are nowadays in /usr/lib32/). I put together a small patch which fixes the problem, could it be reviewed and eventually mainlined? Thanks.
