Benchmark impact of extern templates in TDF compilation times

We have quite a lot of extern templates defined, but it has never been measured how beneficial they are to compilation times in actual TDF use cases. It might even be they are not, in which case they just increase maintenance burden. Or we might want to define a different set of extern templates, for types that are instantiated more often or that take more time to instantiate. It would be nice to investigate the matter.
